WHAT'S IN IT?

What does "plant-based" actually mean for NOWATA™?

It means our formulas are built around ingredients that come from plants and minerals - things like macadamia-derived cleansers, tapioca and arrowroot starches, and natural clays - rather than petroleum-based or synthetic chemicals. Every ingredient is chosen to do a real job, and to break down naturally when it's done.

What's the difference between the Dark and Light dry shampoo ingredients?

Both formulas start from the same gentle, oil-absorbing base of arrowroot powder and natural clays. The Dark blend adds botanicals like lavender, nettle, and burdock root to suit darker hair tones, while the Light blend uses rice powder, chamomile, and lighter clays to blend into lighter hair. You pick the one that matches your hair, so it disappears instead of leaving a visible cast.

What does the asterisk (*) next to some ingredients mean?

The asterisk marks ingredients that are certified organic (biologique). It's our way of being transparent about exactly which botanicals are organically grown.

Do your ingredients contain any harsh chemicals?

No. There are no aerosols, no parabens, no sulfates, and no alcohol in our dry shampoo, and no harsh synthetic detergents in our soap. What you see on this page is what's in the product - nothing hidden.

What is tocopherol / sodium benzoate / xanthan gum? These sound like "chemicals."

Lots of natural ingredients have science-y names. Tocopherol is simply Vitamin E (an antioxidant). Sodium benzoate is a widely used, food-grade preservative that keeps the formula fresh. Xanthan gum is a plant-derived thickener you'll find in everyday foods. A long name doesn't mean it's unnatural - and every one of them scores low on EWG.

IS IT SAFE?

How do I read the EWG scores on this page?

EWG (the Environmental Working Group) rates ingredients on a scale of 1 to 10 based on available safety data: 1 is the lowest hazard, 10 is the highest. Every single NOWATA™ ingredient scores a 1 or a 2 - the low-hazard end of the scale - with nothing higher. We cross-reference EWG's Skin Deep® and Guide to Healthy Cleaning databases so you don't have to.

Why should I trust the EWG scores instead of your word?

Because they're not our scores. EWG is an independent non-profit, and their ratings are based on published scientific research, not
on what a brand wants to claim. We simply show you where each of our ingredients lands. If you ever want to dig deeper, you can look any ingredient up yourself at ewg.org.

Are NOWATA™ products safe for sensitive skin?

Our formulas are made to be gentle and are designed for most skin types. Because everyone's skin is different, if you have a known allergy or very reactive skin, we always recommend a quick patch test first - and checking the full ingredient list, which is right here on this page.

How does the soap clean without water if it's so gentle?

NOWATA™ soap works by physically lifting dirt and germs off your skin so they fall away - no rinsing required. In independent ASTM E1174 lab testing, the rinse-free soap removed more than 99.9% of test germs (E. coli and a norovirus surrogate). Gentle ingredients and real performance aren't a trade-off here.

Are NOWATA™ ingredients biodegradable and eco-friendly?

Yes. Our plant - and mineral-based ingredients are designed to break down naturally in the environment, which is a core reason we formulate the way we do. Clean for you, kinder to the planet.

Are the products and ingredients cruelty-free?

Yes - NOWATA™ does not test on animals.

USING, TRUSTING & REACHING NOWATA™

Does the dry shampoo replace washing my hair?

Not quite - think of it as a refresh, not a replacement. It absorbs excess oil and helps you stretch the time between regular washes, which makes it great for travel, the gym, or outdoor days. Use it as needed, but avoid over-applying, since product can build up over time.

Where do the ingredient images on this page come from?

The images are visual references to help you recognize each ingredient at a glance. They're illustrative; the authoritative source for what's in any product is always the full ingredient list shown here and on the product label.

Who created NOWATA™, and why should that matter for ingredients?

NOWATA™ was founded by Dr. Ruslan Maidans (DDS) and Dr. Yalda Shahriari (PhD), on a simple belief: you shouldn't need water to be clean. That science background is exactly why every ingredient is chosen deliberately and held to a low-hazard standard.

I have a question about an ingredient that isn't answered here. Whatdo I do?

We'd love to help - email us at support@nowataclean.com and we'll get back to you, usually within 24 hours.
