As a vigilant consumer with a background in chemistry, I've always taken it upon myself to read labels and comprehend the ingredients in the products I use. Initially, this practice was mainly directed at food items, stemming from my challenging days studying organic chemistry in school. During that time, our instructor encouraged us to envision the structure and interactions of the components present in the products we use daily. Naturally, my primary focus was on food, as understanding what I consumed directly impacted my health.

As the years passed, scrutinizing ingredients became second nature to me. I not only improved my diet but also extended this habit when my partner and I launched our soap company. This expanded my ingredient analysis to include soaps, shampoos, and other personal care products.

Recently, my attention was drawn to one particular ingredient - cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB), which is commonly found in various products, including those marketed for babies. To my surprise, further research revealed that CAPB is a known allergen. It was even named the allergen of the year in 2004 by American Contact Dermatitis Society, aiming to raise awareness about this compound. Moreover, a study conducted by Zhao et al in 2014 identified CAPB as one of the TOP 3 leading allergens in European cosmetic products. This indicates that current standards for screening cosmetics for allergens might be insufficient.

Hence, we took it upon ourselves to develop our NOWATA™ Soap using only clean ingredients that are not only safe for your skin but also for the planet.

This discovery has strengthened my commitment to ensuring the utmost safety and transparency in the soap we offer. I encourage everyone to be equally mindful of the substances we expose ourselves to daily.
