If we took urine samples from three out of four people (that's 75%), we would find this toxic compound common among them. It's something that household brands like Colgate, Dial, and Fabreware still use daily in their products. What's even more concerning are its potential side effects, which include decreased sperm count and spontaneous abortion to name a few...
My soap-making journey unexpectedly turned me into an ingredient detective, carefully examining labels and uncovering unsettling truths about harmful components lurking in everyday items. One such suspect is Triclosan, which was banned by the FDA in soap products back in 2016. To my surprise, Triclosan still persists in surgical soaps, sanitizers, personal hygiene products, cosmetics, and even toothpaste, with an astonishing annual usage of several million pounds. As I delved deeper into my research, I became increasingly aware of the hazards that Triclosan poses to both our health and the environment. It's time to shed light on the dark side of this ubiquitous yet hazardous chemical and raise awareness about its continued presence in our daily lives.
Let's take a closer look at some of the potential side effects of Triclosan:
- Increased spontaneous abortion rates.
- Decreased newborn weight, length, and head circumference.
- Increased risk of asthma, allergies, and food sensitizations.
- Decrease in sperm count.
- Exacerbation of colitis symptoms and promotion of colitis-associated colon cancer cell growth in mice.
The fact that nearly three out of every four people are exposed to this prevalent substance during their daily activities is truly alarming. Thousands of products still contain Triclosan, and just to name a few examples:
- Tea Tree Therapy™ Liquid Soap
- Dial® Liquid hand soap
- Breeze™ Daily Mouthwash
This is precisely why, when we created NOWATA Soap, we made a conscious decision to steer clear of harmful ingredients like Triclosan.
Let's share this eye-opening article to empower others to become more ingredient-savvy and make informed choices for a healthier future. Together, we can create a safer and more wholesome environment for everyone.
